Nonfiction Writing Program Calendar
The listings below are the NWP’s official events for the Fall 2024 semester. However, much more than this will be happening both across campus and around Iowa City. And additional program events may occasionally be added throughout the semester.
Orientation Week: August 19 – 25
Mon-Tues, Aug 19-20, Nonfiction Writing House: First-year welcome meetings with NWP Director John D’Agata
Friday, Aug 23, 5:00pm, NWP House: First-Year Orientation, led by current NWP students
Week 1: August 26 – September 1
Monday, Aug 26: First Day of Classes
Friday, Aug 30, 5:00pm, Nonfiction Writing House: Mandatory for all students, NWP program-wide orientation; food and drinks provided
Week 2: September 2 – 8
Monday, Sept 2: Labor Day: No classes; Nonfiction Writing House closed
Friday, Sept 6, 3:00pm: Herodotus Award Deadline
Friday, Sept 6, 7:00pm, Prairie Lights Books: Reading by NWP alum Hannah Bonner, author of Another Woman
Week 3: September 9 – 15
Monday, Sept 9: Last day for graduate students to drop courses and receive tuition refund; last day to add courses without fees. (NOTE: Fellowship and teaching tuition waivers will not cover registration changes after this day. That means that if you drop a course, you will be responsible for paying the full tuition for that course!)
Friday, Sept 13, 3:00pm: Deadline for Fall Master Class proposals

Thursday, Sept 19, 7:00pm, Prairie Lights Books: Reading by NWP alum Tatiana Schlote-Bonne, author of Such Lovely Skin, followed by conversation with NWP alum Jessie Kraemer

Friday, November 8, 1:00pm, NWP House: Q&A Session with Knopf Editor Vanessa Haughton, open to MFA students and undergraduate writers

Monday, Nov 11: Early registration opens: Time to register for Spring 2025 classes.
