PJ Zaborowski
I am a PhD candidate at the University of Iowa specializing in Medieval Literature and Culture. Whether in the stanzas of ornate court poetry or a letter scrawled on a scrap of parchment, the ways in which the peoples of the Middle Ages expressed their unique identities with one another lies at the heart of my research. My infatuation with the history of the book, as an artifact and object, propelled me to pursue a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science and a certificate in book studies from the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. The research I’ve conducted and the training I’ve underwent all serves to fuel my passion for teaching and sharing the knowledge I’ve acquired.
My dissertation, Messengers and Messaging in Middle English Literature ,examines the under-explored role of messengers in fourteenth-century English vernacular literature, where they often prove to be crucial elements of the plot or interesting stand-ins for an authorial function. This project has resulted in the successful publication of an excerpt from the first chapter entitled, “Misdo No Messenger: Death and Delivery in the Alliterative Morte Arthure,” in Arthuriana 33:1 (Spring 2023).
