Get to Know Zion

Zion Gifford (he/they) is a PhD student in the English department at the University of Iowa. He is primarily interested in sexuality, gender, medieval literature, and the horror genre. His research seeks to illuminate narratives of queer history and nonnormative pleasure.

Before attending the University of Iowa, Zion received his B.A. in studio art with minors in English and psychology from Valparaiso University. During his undergraduate studies he was recognized with the Margot Anne Uehling Prize for Writing, featured as the Artivism Spotlight in student-run publication The Lighter, and achieved first place in artwork in The Indiana Collegiate Press Association Contest.
