Get to know Harris
Harris Wheless is a writer from North Carolina and an MFA candidate in Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program. He writes essays, criticism, and features on modern and contemporary music, literature, art, and film. His work has appeared in McSweeney's, NPR, Bright Wall/Dark Room, JSTOR Daily, Cineaste, and elsewhere.
Before coming to Iowa, Harris earned a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently teaches The Interpretation of Literature as a graduate instructor, specializing in the New Journalists, the New York School, realist and detective fiction, film noir, Black fiction, tragicomedy, and late 20th century independent film.
