Former Bedell Distinguished Visiting Professor

 

There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension (Random House), by former Bedell Distinguished Visiting Professor Hanif Abdurraqib, was longlisted for the 2024 National Book Award in Nonfiction. His previous book A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance (Random House) was a National Book Award Finalist in 2021.

Mary Allen published a collection of personal essays, The Deep Limitless Air: A Memoir in Pieces, with Blue Light Press. She writes a regular blog on the Psychology Today website and has published the essay “On the Couch” in the anthology The Love Book.

 

Kerry Howley

 

Kerry Howley, NWP 2011 and former NWP faculty, joined writer/director Susanna Fogel for a UI Cinema Arts talk on Adapting for the Screen. This fall the ReFocus Film Festival in Iowa City screened the film “Winner,” which Fogel directed and Howley adapted from her award-winning New York Magazine essay.

 

 

 

Honor Moore, former Bedell Distinguished Visiting Professor, published the memoir A Termination with A Public Space Books in fall 2024. She returned to Iowa City in October for the Iowa City Book Festival.
