In a “this-doesn’t-happen-in-real-life kind of moment,” 19 University of Iowa students get a crash course in the film business, landing a deal for their rewriting of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic.

What began as a collaborative writing experiment has led 19 University of Iowa students to sign a film option with Independent Pictures and Fugitive Films for their retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby

Associate Professor Harry Stecopoulos developed and led what’s thought to be a first-of-its-kind class in fall 2020 in which the undergraduate students collectively rewrote the 1925 classic, whose copyright expired at the end of the year.
