The Lunch and Learn Seminar Series presents a lecture by Prof. Christopher Merrill titled, "The Next Frontier of Learning? MOOCs and the Writing University"

The University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (IWP) has conducted three Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) in the last eight months, which have attracted more than 10,000 students from around the world. Christopher Merrill will discuss the evolution of this project and what its success might mean for higher education. Merrill's latest books include Boat (poetry), Necessities (prose poetry), and The Tree of the Doves: Ceremony, Expedition, War (nonfiction). He serves on the National Council on the Humanities, as well as the National Commission for UNESCO, and he has undertaken more than forty cultural diplomacy missions for the State Department, most recently to Iraq, Haiti, Cuba, and China.
