Inara Verzemnieks will present: Once, a Wolf Bit Me:  Constructing a Memoir From Myths, Silence, and Forgetting

This will include a short talk and a a Creative Reading from Among the Living and the Dead: A Tale of Exile and Homecoming on the War Roads of Europe

Inara Verzemnieks is an assistant professor in the MFA Program in Nonfiction  at the University of Iowa, a recipient of the Rona Jaffe Award for Nonfiction and a nominee for the Pulitzer Prize.  Her first book, Among the Living and the Dead: A Tale of Exile and Homecoming on the War Roads of Europe, will be released by W.W. Norton in July 2017. DJ Waldie, author of Holy Land: A Suburban Memoir calls it “Poetic, melancholy, colored by the dark beauty of the northern landscape Inara Verzemnieks inhabits (much more than merely describes). A memoir of loss and recovery from the tragedies of the 20th century (that) will linger in your imagination, widen your historical perspective, and make you grateful that language has such power.”  Her work has been published in The New York Times, the Atlantic, the Iowa Review and many other magazines and journals.
