Angela Toscano

Research Interests: 18th century British literature, the novel, narrative theory, the romance, theories of love, post-secular studies.

Profile: Angela R. Toscano is a doctoral candidate in English at the University of Iowa. She specializes in the 18th century novel with a particular emphasis on romance and amatory fiction. She has written extensively on genre romance and her article “A Parody of Love: the Narrative Uses of Rape in Popular Romance” was published in the Journal of Popular Romance Studies. She has also written a brief history of the rakehell for the Popular Romance Project, a collaborative project engaging public scholarship and the digital humanities, entitled “A Rake’s Progress.”

Currently, she teaches rhetoric at Iowa, but has previously taught composition and writing. She holds an M.A. from the University of Utah and an MLIS from St. John’s University.
