20th Century African-American Literature

Having spent the first decade of my career at Iowa doing research primarily in 20th century African-American food and cultural studies, in 2004 I began fulfilling a long held dream by studying for a JD at the University of Iowa College of Law. After taking a sabbatical during the 2006-07 academic year to complete the law degree, I anticipate pursuing two new research projects, one in food / cultural studies and one in legal / cultural studies. Although I will continue to teach occasional courses in African-American literature, as well as on Vietnam in the global imagination, my primary teaching focus will be related to my research on food and law.
