Located at some remove from the University of Iowa main campus, theObermann Center for Advanced Studies provides a retreat space, funding, and other facilities for scholars and symposia. In addition to co-sponsoring A Poetries Symposium, the Obermann Center has offered to host Saturday's roundtable; the Center will also provide lunch on Saturday. Individuals participating in Saturday's discussion have each done research that broadens the study of poetry in the academy and intensifies the ways in which it can enter into cultural and historical discussions. In addition to providing a forum for discussing particular poetic texts, we are hoping that A Poetries Think Tank will also offer the opportunity to think more generally about ways to support and disseminate scholarship that positions poetry in a larger field of discussion. Thus, in addition to talking about specific texts and approaches, we hope on Saturday to be talking about the future of Poetries as well.
