Mary Ann Rasmussen Director, Honors Program I have been a Lecturer and Director of the English Honors Program since 1997. I regularly teach courses on Asian American literature, reading criticism, and women's writing and I run the department's Honors Thesis Workshop. I am broadly interested in issues of race, class and gender, particularly in radical American writers who have challenged racial injustice, class and gender inequities, and sexual fears. I am currently working on a book entitled New Woman of the Old Left: Feminism and Socialism in the Writings of Josephine Herbst, 1918-1939. Last year I worked with the University of Illinois Press in reissuing Josephine Herbst's novel from the thirties, Pity is Not Enough, by writing an essay length critical introduction. |
